Nairobi, Kenya — September 25th 2025 – Africa Sports Ventures Group (ASVG) is proud to announce the official launch of the Legends Track & Field Series, a groundbreaking new athletics initiative that will kick off on November 6, 2025, at the prestigious Sankara Hotel’s Grand Ballroom in Nairobi, Kenya.
The event will bring together delegations from Nigeria, Zambia, Burkina Faso, and Sierra Leone, alongside partners, sponsors, investors, and members of the international sporting community, to celebrate the beginning of a series set to transform athletics in Africa and beyond.
The Legends Track & Field Series is anchored by some of the continent’s greatest athletes, including:

  • Mary Onyali (Nigeria) – Olympic medalist and African sprint queen.
  • Samuel Matete (Zambia) – World Champion and African record holder in the 400m hurdles.
  • Fabrice Zango (Burkina Faso) – Olympic medalist, World Champion, and triple jump world record holder.
  • Eunice Barber (Sierra Leone/France) – World Champion in the heptathlon and long jump.
  • Innocent Egbunike (Nigeria/USA) – Former African record holder across the sprints and one of Africa’s most decorated athletes.
This Pan-African series of annual international track and field classics will be hosted across the continent, providing athletes with world-class competitions, boosting tourism and local economies, and positioning Africa as a true hub for global athletics.
“This launch is not only about celebrating legends—it’s about building opportunities for the next generation of African athletes and creating a global platform rooted in Africa’s rich sporting heritage,” said Leslie Koroma Sr., CEO of Africa Sports Ventures Group.
The Nairobi launch event, coinciding with the 50 Most Influential African Women in Sports Awards, will feature dignitaries, sports ministers, and international media, alongside a presentation of the Series’ vision, calendar, and opportunities for partnerships.
ASVG extends an open call to sponsors, partners, and investors who wish to be part of this historic sporting initiative.
