May 2024 Nominees for African Athlete of the Month Revealed

ASVG Media reveals the contenders for the May 2024 African Athlete of the Month and they are:

• Aruna Quadri - Table Tennis - Nigeria
• André Onana - Soccer - Cameroon (Goalkeeps for Manchester United)
• Ademola Lookman - Soccer - Nigeria (Plays for Atalanta BC)
• Mubarak Mohammed - Amputee Soccer - Ghana

These four athletes were able to secure their spots on the AAOTM nominations list due to their

outstanding performances in the month of May.

• Aruna Quadri of Nigeria emerged victorious in Kigali, Rwanda last month securing the men's singles title by defeating El-Beiali Mohamed from Egypt in four straight sets at the 2024 ITTF Africa Cup!
• Mubarak Mohammed from Ghana's Amputee National team, the Black Challenge, emerged as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the recent Amputee Africa Cup of Nations (AAFCON) in Egypt. With an outstanding total of 8 goals and two Man of the Match awards, Mohammed's remarkable performance led Ghana to a 2-1 victory against Morocco, successfully retaining their AAFCON title.
• Andre Onana of Cameroon holds the distinction as Manchester United's first African Goalkeeper and in May 2024 joined a rare fraternity when he became the second to win an FA Cup with Manchester United after Bruce Grobbelaar of Zimbabwe who once played for Liverpool.
• Ademola Lookman of Nigeria singlehandedly ended the unbeaten streak of German Champions Leverkeusen by scoring a hat-trick against them when they locked horns with his Atalanta BC outfit for the UEFA Europa League Finals on May 22nd
